77 days is too long - Deerful

yep - just 77 days to go until the debut vinyl release from Deerful, and you can pre-order the record here:

Deerful is Emma Winston. Emma is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who, after several years spent as a keyboard player and vocalist for musicians including Darren Hayman, Owl & Mouse and Enderby’s Room, decided to indulge her love for synthesisers and storytelling and begin making music of her own. She writes and performs electronic pop about running away, staying in place, brokenness, recovery, and taking up space in the world.

She plans to release an EP, Staying Still, on cassette and download this summer.

and just to add to the excitement - here's a countdown clock!

this year's singles all come with posters, and they look a lot like this:

Release Date - Woodpigeon & Norman Blake

as you may or may not know, wiaiwya-7777777 is a seven inch singles club, a very ambitious seven inch singles club, due to last for seven years

today we reach the mid point, the 25th single of the set...

The Woodpigeon and Norman Blake 45 is the sound of the Laurel Canyon recorded on a feather, with a bit of Prefab Sprout and Fairport Convention added for good measure; delicate wispy harmonies, intimate acoustic instrumentation, and the West Coast feel that Glaswegians do so well.

Woodpigeon is fundamentally Mark Andrew Hamilton writing songs. Starting off in Edinburgh (with members of eagleowl), then moving to Canada for the band's first full-length album, entitled Songbook, released in late 2006. Three years later the second long player, Treasury Library Canada c/w Houndstooth Europa was long-listed for the Polaris Prize, and Hamilton served as the curator of the first annual Sled Island Festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
2010 saw the band's third album, Die Stadt Muzikanten, then 2012 marked a move to Vienna and 2013 the release of Thumbtacks + Glue on Fierce Panda.
Woodpigeon has collaborated with over 70 musicians, and has played alongside Withered Hand, Ólöf Arnalds, Broken Social Scene, Patrick Wolf, Iron and Wine, Grizzly Bear, and Calexico, has appeared as part of Ray Davies’ Meltdown, and played Iceland Airwaves festival twice.

Of course Norman Blake needs no introduction, but here goes anyway: Norman has been recording hits since the Boy Hairdressers ep in 1986, after a stint in the BMX Bandits he formed Teenage Fanclub in 1989, two years later they released one of the best albums of the 90’s – Bandwagonesque… aside from 10 Fanclub LPs (with another in the pipeline) Norman has recorded with Joe Pernice, Euros Childs, Jad Fair, the Pastels, Tenniscoats, Kevin Ayers, Bill Wells, The Reindeer Section, Snowgoose, Yeon Gene and The Pearlfishers.

Today we’re adding Woodpigeon to that list.

release date - the Human Hearts

Evoking the spirit of both el and Postcard records, American indie icons Franklin Bruno and Jenny Toomey return to recording with the classiest 7” you’ll hear all year.

Billed as the Human Hearts, Toomey and Bruno swing, crackle and POP through two instant classics – the reflective Loyal Opposition, and the Motown meets Orange Juice stomp Distracted.

Bruno is an American singer-songwriter, academic, writer, and blogger originally from Upland, California. He has been a member of Nothing Painted Blue since its inception in 1986, has worked on two Mountain Goats albums, written a book on Elvis Costello’s Armed Forces and is a professor of philosophy.

Alongside Kristin Thomson, Toomey booked the first Riot Grrrl shows in DC and co-founded the prolific indie label Simple Machines in 1990. She played and sang in Tsunami, Liquorice, Geek, So Low, Choke, Grenadine, My New Boyfriend, Slack and her own Jenny Toomey band (with members of Calexico). After Simple Machines shut down, Toomey co-founded the Future of Music Coalition while on sabbatical from a copywriting job at the Washington Post. Now she splits her time between New York and D.C., doing important-sounding work at the Ford Foundation—and for the last decade or more, it seemed like she had put music on the far-back burner. But now, Toomey is back at it again.

For the first time since 2002’s Tempting, Jenny Toomey’s voice appears on a new record via English label Where It’s At Is Where You Are. Not only is it a collaboration with songwriter Franklin Bruno (her long-time pal and off/on creative partner), but violinist and vocalist Jean Cook, who has played with Pulp, The Mekons’ Jon Langford and D.C.’s Beauty Pill, among others also adds strings and ahhhs.
